How to sleep well during the festive season

I remember when I was little and sleeping at Christmas just didn’t happen, it was all too exciting! But now I’m older (and wiser ha ha!) I do know that it’s probably even more important to sleep well during the festive season than at any time of the year.

I’ve already written about the value of sleep for us eczema sufferers. But Christmas brings a whole host of other things with it that, if you’re not careful, can all add up to a flare up. And who wants to be opening their presents worrying about that? Not me and not you.

My tips to sleep well during the festive season

So you’re going to lots of parties, frantically doing your Christmas shopping, writing cards, seeing friends, and working as well. Any wonder we often feel ready to drop by the time the big day arrives? It can be tempting to think you’ll just ‘catch up’ with sleep when you’ve finished work and if you’ve got some time off, but my lovelies sleep doesn’t work like that!

You need regular, good-quality sleep to keep your skin in tip-top condition, so the theory of lots of late nights followed by a few early ones doesn’t add up I’m afraid. I’m not here to be a party pooper, but do yourself a favour and don’t plan too many late nights in a row. If you know you have a party coming up, keep each night clear either side so you can catch some zzzzs.

And if you find you’ve somehow missed out on your good night’s sleep, don’t be afraid to take a little nap here and there. Some calming music or meditation works wonders at any time of the day, so if you get a free hour then let yourself drift away. Our brains are often buzzing at this time of year with all the things we need to do, so I often find listening to a meditation session helps to clear away the chatter and calm my mind ready for sleep.
