Make my multi-use DIY natural cleanser and get gorgeous, glowing skin

6 August 2018

As I’ve explored the best ways to manage my eczema I’ve become fascinated with anything that will help my skin glow. I love the natural beauty industry and trying new products, but I admit it can be hard to know and understand ALL the ingredients. That’s why I love to make my own skincare products. Think about it... if you go out for a meal you don’t know everything that’s in it. Cook it yourself and you’re fully in control. And a DIY natural cleanser is the perfect answer.

A DIY natural cleanser that’s so simple to make

I did a natural skincare-making course at the College of Naturopathic Medicine, which taught me how to make cleansers, toners, moisturisers, face masks etc, and was really fun. And having a sound knowledge of all the natural ingredients I’m using means I have no fear of reactions.

This cleanser I’m about to share with you is multi-purpose. You can use it:

  • On your face to remove makeup and for a deep cleanse.
  • Over your body and face as a treatment before soaking in a salt bath
  • As a hair treatment oil

Ingredients

  • Castor oil
  • Olive oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Orange essential oil

Plus a 50-100ml glass bottle. I found these on Amazon.

Method

The quantity varies according the size of your bottle. If you’re using a 100ml bottle mix 60ml castor oil with 40 ml olive oil, or for 50ml mix 30 ml of castor oil with 20 ml olive oil.

Then add a drop of whichever essential oil you prefer. Personally I like lavender oil in my evening cleanser and orange oil in my morning cleanser.

What makes it so great?

Castor oil... has been used for hundreds of years to treat skin infections. It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial. It also increases lymph flow which helps speed up the removal of toxins in your body, which can lead to less inflammation.

Olive oil... is a good source of vitamin E and other antioxidants that can hydrate your skin and speed up wound healing.

Lavender essential oil... can soothe skin irritation (be careful with open cuts though!) and can help reduce anxious and tense feelings and promote a restful night’s sleep.

Orange essential oil... has been said to uplift the mind and body.
